I've heard that China is vying to take Taiwan by force.

China claims Taiwan as part of its territory. It's as if California was a break away state from the union, and China was selling them sophisticated weaponry.

I'd say that's mostly true.

However, Taiwan does have the means to repel a Chinese invasion force (remember, it is an island after all, and islands are tricky regardless of which army that's doing the invading).

What Taiwan lacks is the ability to defend itself against Chinese missile strikes which would devastate it's infrastructure and leave it helpless and broken.
