First DJ setup ever

What do I need? What can I do with $500? I want to mix cd's. The purpose of this is I want to start making extra money on the side DJing weddings and birthdays, and I've already got a gig for one of my high school friend's wedding. So I need a setup.

for weddings an stuff, you might want to think about something laptop based. That way you have your entire music library with you, and its cheaper. and yes, search is your homeboy.

$500 isnt going to get you anywhere.... basic CDJs are almost 500 each anyways...

btw how did you already get gigs if you havent even started DJing...?

if you have a laptor you might as well just buy a mixing program like traktor or something, its pretty cheap

otherwise I would say 2X CDJ200s, and a basic 2 channel mixer, plus headphones... try to get it used... will still be mroe than $500 unless you find a sweeeeet deal

Oh yea...I'm going to buy a laptop. I'm already practicing using Traktor DJ Studio. I tried to look through the tutorials you guys have here, and I didn't find anything on the "first DJ setup". I have a gig because, first, the wedding is 2 years away, second, I offered to do it for free, as long as they paid for my plane ticket. It'll be like a visit to all my friends back in Florida.

You can DJ a wedding with WinAmp and a microphone.

Why would you begin looking for gigs before getting a setup?
