Mixer to PC Queries

Ok I tried looking around but couldnt find a solution.

Here's my set-up

Mixer - Numark DXM06
Decks - CDJ 200 x 2

PC Set up
Abit IP35-E On-Board Sound

I have connected the "Mixer Master Output" to the "PC Soundcard Line Input" using the right cables and all the sound levels are at MAX. I control the sound of the speakers using a remote control for the speakers (Altec Lansing 5.1)

At 20% on the speaker remote I can listen to the sound being played on the PC very loud and clear. But when I connect the line input and play the sound from the decks its very low. I can hardly hear it. So I turned up the MASTER Knob on the mixer slightly (20% at best from 5%). So now the sounds comes clear. But now when I try to record the sounds using audacity its clicks (distorted completely). I understand the MASTER KNOB is causing this distortion coz the moment I reduce the master knob to 5% the sounds stops clicking. The only way I can currently record non-distorted sound and yet hear them from the speakers is by turning up the speaker vol to almost 80% which is insane.

Any solutions such that I the Line input volume is same as the normal audio on the PC ? Am I doing something wrong in the set-up? Btw I also tried the Microphone Jack and its the same issue.

Yeah I checked the soundcard software as well. Basically the controls are connected to the main sound controls of windows. Nonetheless I checked and all the volumes are to the max. Thanks anyways

I have the same setup at home. Id recommend using the record out instead of the master out, that way you remove one of your volume controls thus simplifying the situation.

As for exact settings i know i had to play with it alot to stop clipping noises when i recorded in audacity. If i remember right i had all my PC volumes pretty low and controlled the outbound on my speakers.

Thanks. I tried pluging in the record out and yet the same situation. The clipping just does not go away. Guess I'll have to think of something else

on my PC the line in volume has to be pretty low (maybe 1 notch up) when I'm recording, not maxed out.
