[House] DarkSword - Fresh [Preview]

Hello. Long time since I have posted any material of mine. Thought I would drop a preview of a track I have been working on for a while now. Probably 100 or so hand spliced edits on the two chopped vocal tracks. Haven't decided which direction I'm taking this song yet. Part of me says make it a full blown vocal track, the other half says fuck it, make it instrumental. Any suggestions?

DarkSword - Fresh

Cheers,
Zac

woohoo for the FL 6 XXL users!

I love the pads I think I heard 'm somewhere in a vst, can't put my finger on them.

The glitchy arp works well in the atmosphere, nice contrast.

Aahh hahaha that retro bass/beat is so cool man!

You always had a good sense of fx, but Im not very fond of the robotlike fx's in this track, thats just my personal taste.

it does blend in nicely with the acidy lead though.

Personally, I'd make the main theme of the track like the first 32 beats from 0:44, it's very catchy!

Still very nice work, you got me curious for the rest of it !!

Thank you for the kind replies. Actually on current version 8 now, just haven't updated that at all lol. I definitely had plans to bring that first bassline back into the mix, just haven't decided quite where.

Thank you again,
Zac

I'd almost be more inclined to call this breaks than house, even though it's not the standard Amen. Anyway, great job on the vocal chops and in putting the sounds together, it all sounds really tight. My only complaint is that the kick doesn't seem to have much... well... kick. My sub's just sittin' there doing nothing. See if you can bring the bass up on it without killing the other sounds.

As for what to do with it... you'd be matching the sound of a lot of modern tracks if you just kept it instrumental, using the vocal glitches as a rhythmic element. If you make it a vocal track, though, you'd be appealing to a wider audience, but unless you've got a really good voice and are able to make the melody really catchy then you end up with a lower chance overall of the track actually getting played out. You either play it safe or take the risk - your call.

Hello. Your comments are most appreciated . I believe I have a decent voice but I don't think I would be making a more mainstream track by laying down vocals. I think I could probably come up with some crazy chops and skips in it, enough to make it sound entirely different from most vocal tracks. My problem with a vocal track would be writing lyrics. I'm too much of a formulaic writer with too little skill as a poet. Eh, I may end up doing a separate mix of each (vocal and instrumental), with very different feeling to the mixes.

As for dropping in two bass line rhythms; it is as easy as writing the bass lines while they play together so they create a harmony. This allows you to drop a different bass line later in the song and still keep a similar, yet different feel to the song. This is how I did it in this song anyway.

Cheers,
Zac
