Steve and I had a conversation about this the other day.....
I'm burned out as shit on EDM. I don't listen to half of the radio shows I use to, I don't get enthused to play myself anymore, search for tracks, etc. I use to skip work to listen to radio shows, jam out at my house, search for tracks, etc. The energy & the ride is not there for me right now. It seems like to me that the days of understanding what a DJ did are gone.
IMO, every DJ in their set or production right now is trying to one up the other with style points on how many effects, loops, and whatever else crap you can throw together in a track or set right now. I miss the days of it being about the experience & journey an entire set use to do to me. Now, it's just getting flat out boring. There aren't a whole lot of guys left IMO that still take you on that ride and focus on that ride, not the track of the moment.
I'll call it the Deadmau5 effect (even as much as I hate to give him credit, but he's the hot name at the moment). Sure, his style is unique, blah blah blah, but it seems to me that everyone is trying to one up a similar technique into their sets or productions, regardless of genre.
Curious to know everyone elses thoughts.
