RIP.
Today is a very sad day for me as I just learned last night that my favourite author, Michael Crichton, someone who has inspired me and fuelled a core drive and passion within me for so long, has passed way on Tuesday (November 4).
Feels like I was sidelined with a bag of rocks. Don't even know how to process this reality at the moment.
He was a literary genius and has inspired me with his brilliant works more than any other author I've ever read, and I'll wager more than any author I'll ever read. For more than 15 years (more than half my life) I’ve been following his novels. . .
The breadth of his accomplishments is amazing. Something to respect. He's written countless #1 best selling novels (fiction and non-fiction), given many poignant speeches (including one before the United States Senate), written several screen plays, created/wrote and was the executive producer of the highly successful television show "ER" which is still running today, 15 years later, on NBC (though this will be its final season... how fitting... ), started his own his computer game company, and has won many, many awards throughout his life. He even had a dinosaur named after him, Crichtonsaurus bohlini, in honour of Jurassic Park. (lol)
Michael Crichton was something of an idol to me, someone I looked up to, someone who spoke his mind (actively and publicly) about what he believe in, who always stayed true to and resolute in his convictions. He challenged ppl’s views, tried to influence change and reform in the ways he could. He never backed down. A good person who inspired me in many ways.
What a loss – for me and the world.
This quote from above sums it up for me:
| quote: |
He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched, but he leaves behind the greatest gifts of a thirst for knowledge, the desire to understand, and the wisdom to use our minds to better our world. |
RIP.
