Nah, Family Guy hasn't really been great since the first season. Maybe a couple of episodes in the 2nd season were good too, but I think the turning point was the "retard" episode in season 2, after which it seemed that they were just recycling the same jokes over and over again. The Alien clip didn't even make me chuckle.
Robot Chicken is better for the kind of over-the-top rapid-fire jokes that Family Guy tries too hard to do now, and South Park has always been better for actual satire (one could argue that it's even better than The Simpsons was in its early seasons).
Sometimes shows are canceled for a reason - maybe Seth knew that they were running out of good material. Twice it got canceled, and twice it got put back on the air, and now the network is trying to edit the shows themselves even with Seth and the other writers on strike. To the viewers and to Fox: It's a sign, guys. It was a great show for its time, but it wasn't meant to be a timeless classic like the Simpsons or a cult classic like South Park, it was meant to be a humorous little blip on the radar of TV history.
