Hi I've been sending one of my new tracks to various labels, and after 2 weeks, only 1 has actually downloaded the track (based on the download counter). Is this a concern? Or is it normal for labels to shelve tracks without even listening to them? Or do they take more than 2 weeks to even listen?

Most labels reply to me within 48hrs. And yes it is pretty common for labels to just ignore your demo's.

i dont think a label would risk missing a real gem by not listening to it, so im pretty sure they are going to listen eventually.

If they're just going to completely blow it off then fuck them. They're either not looking for demos or need to fix their demo mailbox.

smaller labels take a few days, if not the same exact day, the next day, and the more well known they are, the less likely they are going to reply back to you, but the download counter for me says that they do infact listen from my experience, everyone sends stuff to the huge labels, so don't expect them to rush things, or reply back to you.

I listen and reply to every demo we get, its only courteous

I sent out a batch of tracks one time, to several labels, only heard back from one. I got a reply the next day from a pretty well known label. I wonder if the others even listened. I hate sending out demos, and haven't done so since. Luckily, I know some other producers that are helping me get signed to the label they are on. Just the other day I had a german label contact me, they heard some tracks on my myspace page. I love when the labels come to you.

If I ever decide to send demos out again, I'm going to make sure I check the download count. I think it's worse when you know they listened, and then don't contact you. Probably means they didn't like the tracks. I hate rejection.

I never had any luck with sending demos online. I used the old fashioned method of mailing out CDs. I think there is something to be said when a label gets a physical CD that is well presented. I think they might be more inclined to give it a listen since it takes a lot more effort to do this then uploading a track or sending a label a link. Its more personal. This sounds old fashioned these days but its what finally did it for me. In fact all of my signings were a result of a physical CD and nothing online related. Best of luck.

I would expect labels to be just like me when I'm hearing new music.
I listen to the first 15 seconds.
If it doesn't grab me I randomly drag the arrow somewhere in the middle of the track, if theres nothing interesting happening I go right click > delete.
