Call me an idiot, had no idea you could do this

I figure if I didn't know might as well be some other people who didn't know.
But I try to post things I think are useful or not beaten to death already.

For people who don't know how simple it is, if you're mixing a track and want some vocals, fx, movie scene audio, something just with a cool voice talking, or even donald duck which I'm almost done mixing in my new trance track. (be up next week for curious folk)

You can rip audio right off of youtube. You can do it online or get software (I'm using the software). I'd imagine certain vids might have copyright issues or w/e but theres plethoras of cool sound affects like birds, beaches, waves crashing or w/e... thunder etc. And its all realistic well because its real.

I just want people to know they can do this, we have the technology lol, and I think its awesome. I've been ripping and slicing all day.. really cool.

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

Free Recorder Toolbar.

It only records sound from that window in your interent browser. So it doesnt capture system sounds and such. Nice little tool

Another good source for free sounds is the Free Sound Project:

http://www.freesound.org/

Lots of nice stuff on there, from nature recordings to weird synth noises and rare instruments. Also all of the sounds there are free to use in your music.

There's a program called "DownloadHelper" that has an icon on your browser tool bar. You click it and it list all media on current webpage, you select the media you want and download it to your computer.

There are restrictions.

From memory, most sounds are done under the CC license where you can only use the sounds in non-profit and non-commercial work. There are some under the completely free CC license though...

One thing I like is this program called DVD Audio Extractor, it lets you extract audio at full quality without the hassle of rewiring or routing your equipment just to record off of a DVD.

Actually, most are under the CC "Sampling Plus" license, which lets you use the sound in either commercial or non-commercial work as long as you credit it:
