Setting up your laptop with your equipment

I just recently purchased a laptop and was curious as to how to set it up with the rest of my dj equipment...so that I can record sets and possibly use other programs while mixing. I have a DJM600 and CDJ800mk2 x2. Please help

you could buy an external sound card with RCA inputs.

go to radio shack and buy a cord with rca's on one side, and 1/8th inch minijack (typical headphone input) on the other. put that into your line in on your computer. plug the rcas in an output from your mixer (like booth or whatever). google a program called audacity to record your sets. its super simple.

That's probably a ground loop, a common problem with laptops and audio. Put some tape on the ground connectors on your power plug so the ground can't connect to the ground in your power outlet. That should get rid of the noise.

Definitely not a good idea.. Equipment could go pooooof!

But i'd just invest in a ground loop isolator instead.

Might cost a penny or two but worth it rather than getting rid of the earth point on a plug going into your mains.

just my 2c..

nelly

So many outlets in the house I live in aren't grounded. I have never seen anything go poof . Luckily.

From an audio nerd point of view using a ground loop isolator is just as bad. It changes the audio signal.
