Just bought my first gun

Well, i just returned from Academy sports with my new gun. It's a Taurus PT-111 Millennium 9MM. Academy is having a 3-day sale with it for $229.99. I figured that was just too big of a deal to pass up. I'll be taking it Sunday to the shooting range and see how it performs. Total out the door was ~$259 with a box of ammo. I got my Academy employee discount on the ammo, but unfortunately not on the gun. Still very excited. Time for some training classes and getting my CHL.

EDIT: here is the link for the Academy site: CLICKY

I hope you like it. Should have asked us here for some tips on buying a first gun. I know a few of us are weapons nuts.

yea, i remember a thread about it. one of the guys i work with has one, and i also asked the gun guy at the store and he said it's a wonderful gun. I figured it would be a good gun to hold me over until i get my Glock.

I wouldn't upgrade to a Glock, but that is my preference. Whatever you have make sure you know how to use it. That is most important. Whenever I read about gunfights here in the news with over 20 rounds fired and no serious injuries I just have to shake my head.

Yea, if it's one thing about me, i learn how to use everything i own. whether it be computers, tools, anything. i'm one of those guys that reads everything he can before he does something with it. the guy i work with is gonna come over to my house tomorrow and show me how to take it apart and clean it properly and Sunday i'm going with him to the shooting range to get the feel for it.

as far as upgrading to a glock, i'm not exactly sure what i'm going to be upgrading to, but i'll probably get whatever it is from Academy cause i get a 15% employee discount.

If you want a polymer frame gun I would take a Springfield Armory over a Glock any day. I own both brands. If you are open to other styles of pistol I would checkout any sort of 1911 .45 acp that you guys might carry at Academy.

yea, i actually started doing more research and i am steadily learning more and more. we sell Springfield armory and they are listed at the same price as the Glocks now. the Glocks used to be $499 and now they jumped to $529. Anyway, even more research will be going into my next gun purchase.

btw...i got a box of Winchester 9mm (50) for like $10 with my discount.

I've been shooting one of those since I was a little boy.
