Could well be ram, or a top spec powerPC vs. entry level macbook but even then I'd be leaning towards the fact the macbook is probably bogged down with way more non audio applications, data, etc than the desktop?
What do yo mean session conflicts? Logic is backwards compatible, meaning logic 8 or lower session will work on 9 (not vice versa), unless you are missing AU's or bundled FX from previous logic versions.
Also, if you networked them it wouldn't even be too much of a mission rebuild the session from one version to another.
Yes there are some changes for songwriters but I think the timestretch is a greatly needed (and overdue upgrade) as well as audio quantise and apparently better system efficency when combined with the new OS update.
