I got it all straightened out. Northernsound admitted to making a mistake and not special ordering the mixer when they should have. I had to catch them red-handed, but they admitted they made a mistake when I did.
I called them December 1st (a monday) around noon to just make sure they got my order and I wanted to ask how long it would take to be at my doorstep because it was a "special item" order. On December 1st, the guy said it would take a week for it to get there and then the 3-7 day deal with UPS ground.
Well, I call back the following Monday (yesterday, the 8th) to ask what the deal was on the order and they hadn't even ordered the mixer from Rane yet. I obviously was pist and told the guy that I called last Monday and was told it would be special ordered and it would take a week. Here is where he tried to get snaky. He told me that they only process special orders on Mondays and that when I called last week that they had already processed the special orders for that week. I'm surprised he said this, because I clearly ordered the day BEFORE the day they would process this "special order." I then explained to him that I actually ordered on Sunday and then called on Monday to make sure everything was going smooth, they received my order, etc. So of course he then admits to it being a mistake and apologizes but at that point what can they do?
They ended up having a refurbished unit that had never even been turned on. It was ordered by their company for a "special order" and the mount rack came with a slight ding on it so they sent it back to Rane for a new mount rack. Since there were no audio problems, and I could give a shit about a replaced mount rack, I just said send me that one and hurry it up. It includes all of the same warranties as a brand new mixer. I paid $675 for it with shipping included. It was shipped 2 hours after I let them know that I wasn't happy and that I needed the refurbished mixer ASAP. They even upgraded the shipping to 2 day for free, so it'll be here in the morning. Because of this, I still recommend them. They made an honest mistake but they also corrected that mistake the way a company should. All companies make mistakes. How they treat those mistakes is telling of the company. So I still highly recommend www.northernsound.net - You will not find another place cheaper to buy gear. You have to pay $1 to see their prices because everything they sell is below the allowed displayed price. For instance, I was quoted $795 + $25 shipping for a new Rane Empath Rotary. The next best deal was @ DJDeals.com for $992. Tell me that isn't some mad good pricing. Too bad they don't carry Pioneer.
As for unitek - Stay away. Far, far away. I should have used my brain and shelled out another $20 to get my product from an eastern based company. Do not ever buy gear from a company based in Southern California. All of their customers sales reps speak extremely poor English, you'll repeat yourself twice, and they're just flat out idiots. I told them if my CDJs weren't shipped tomorrow with a free 2 day upgrade on the shipping I was canceling. DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY -> www.iunitek.com
