Mixers - Numark X9, Vestax PMC-280, others

I'm in the market for a new mixer as I have finally resolved to replace my shitty shitty gemini mixer. I mostly want it for home mixing and recording, and occasionally lugging to a party or clubnight somewhere. I really want something with a decent sound; I don't want to hear any artifacts or distortion in my recordings. However, I probably won't be hooking it up to massive club systems. It'd also be nice to have some effects, or at least low/high-pass filters which I use quite a bit (my current cheap-ass CDJs have these, but at some point I'll upgrade them too).

Anybody know anything about the Numark X6 or X9? Apparently they're new mixers, but they just look like the DXM06 and DXM09 with cosmetic adjustments to me. Are they any good? I've played around on a DXM06 and it seemed pretty good.

What about a Vestax PMC-280? It seems to have just about everything I want. Is this any good?

Of course I could spend 3 times as much on a better mixer and an external effects processor; I'm not convinced that I want to do this, though.

Behringer DJX700 has all the features I want and is cheap as fuck, but some people seem to think that it's a POS. Is this the consensus?

Or should I just get a Xone 32 with its stupid gain controls on the back?

No DJX 700. That is a POS for sure. If anything, their new mixer (DDM-4000) is supposed to be much improved, but it hasn't been out long enough to see how it holds up.

Yeah, this thing looks great and claims to have optical faders and all. I don't know if I'd trust it not to break.

PMC-280 looks like a decent piece of kit. Far better than Numark.

Ecler Nuo 4 would be a strong suggestion.

I would say no to the AH 32, because you're looking for a 4 chan mixer.

I bought a Denon X1500S not too long ago for cheap and I'm pretty happy.

Try before you buy. And make sure it works for you.

i have the pmc280. the sound quality is waaay better than the numark. when i was researching mixers, i wanted 4 channels, great sound quality and effects, and for the price you cant beat it. the nuo 4 might be worth looking into though..

PMC280 hands down winner. Better value than the nuo4 and just slightly better sound quality. Built like a tank, good layout too and plenty of connections.

The only crappy thing about the layout that I could see is that the headphone jack is really close to the cueing controls, and thus the headphone cord will get in the way slightly.

Nuo 4 seems to cost WAY more and its features don't really appeal to me any more than those of the PMC280.

Might be a better value for the money, depending on the person, but I don't know about it having better sound quality. I guess everyone has different opinions.

Anyways, they're both good mixers. If you have the extra cash, get the NUO4 though, its an excellent mixer

I would get the Xone especially if you use filters a lot. Unless you absolutely need four channels. The filters are amazing and the gain knob on the back isn't that big of a deal. I was going to get the 32, but found the 62 to be a better value at $760+shipping.

I also considered the Nuo 4 and Rane Empath.

Idunno; the xone 32 is a pretty decent mixer and I do like the filters. No, I don't *really* need 4 channels but they would come in handy now and again. Numark X9 is all digital, so really it's all a question of the latency and the quality of the DACs/ADCs.

I'm gonna head out and try a PMC-280. We'll see how it goes.
