CDJ's

I'm thinking of converting to CDJ's as theres just too much choonage thats not coming out on vinyl nowadays.

What are people's thoughts on the Pioneer 800mk2?
I'm not going to spring for 1000's, and I'm thinking of only getting one at the moment to complement my TT's but depending on how things go I might make the full swap so I want something decent.

I am coming from playing vinyl so the large jog wheel and vinyl mode of the 800 does excite me more than the pissy little one on the 200.

Anyone use a 400 yet? how does the normal use of it compare to the 800mk2? Whats the jog wheel like on the 400 compared to the 800mk2?

If we say a limit of $1000, any other options?

Effects aren't a big deal, if I wanted effects I'd get an EFX unit not some dodgy ones on the cdj. Digital connectivity is not important at all.

I doubt i'm going to be able to check any out personally, the only place here is Derringers and the couple of times I've been in there I've gotten crap service so I don't much fancy going back. I may try to pop into VW when I'm in Melbourne between Christmas/NYE but I don't know if i'll have time.

Just a random question for anyone who might now, about how big is the 800mk2?

for pioneer i've used mostly 200s at a friends place and they seem to do pretty much all you need. you can do loops on them, it plays mp3s and it has some effects.

also i've borrowed teflon_teapot's cdjs while he is overseas, they are denon dn-s 1000, they are good too, the thing i like about those more than the pioneer ones is that as well as being able to push the jog wheel they also have a button you can push for pitch bend, this makes it easier in my view. so maybe try them if you don't have to have only pioneer ones.

i know that has nothing to do with pioneer 800's, but what do they have that you need and can't do on the 200 or denon?

my 200's work fine but the fact that the jog wheel is more of a jog DISC can get a big frustrating.. I'd opt for a CDJ that actually has a raised jog wheel with the divets in em - just easier to manipulate I find..

Save your cash up and get 1000's... dont waste your money on anything else!

The 400's are a pretty good piece of equipment, the main thing i like about it is the USB slot on them. Whack in a usb key and you have all your tunes ready to go...

eyyy ben, have a search in the DJ booth section of ta, sure you'll find heaps of shit on this

i have 200s tho, and i've never had any problem with them: the jog wheel is a little annoying, but unless you have heaps of spare cash, and unless you're a pro-dj i don't think it's really worth the extra thousand just for a bigger wheel (they're better than a big wheel, but essentially...)

i'm pretty sure the interior build of the 200 is the same as the 800, as in pitch & tempo modulation etc

it really depends why ya want cdjs tho, 200s are a minimum, but unless you're really investing in them (which isn't a bad idea), or have lots of spare cash 1000s are probly a little ritzy...

800's don't have USB, the 400's do, if you're looking at new 200's I'd probablty go the 400 instead since the price isn't much different.
200's have better pitch resolution than the 800's (0.02 vs 0.05)
800's feel better and have scratch function, 200's is a jog wheel only. Even if you're only using that scratch for cueing, still feels better than hitting the play button.
1000's you pay a lot for a few extra features over the 800. hot cues vs auto loops wave display and the same pitch resolution as the 200's

i just bought the 400's from storedj, and they're fucking nice! the jogwheel is small like the 200, but has the dimples on the side and feels a bit like a 1000/800. still with vinyl emulating capabilities, and the usb function is a big fat plus.

can get them for real cheap at the moment too, both for around $1500

but if you want to spend double that for 1000's or 800's go for it!

See James Brooke post!

200's are sesitive as fuck, hate the wheel! 800's are fine, much like a 1000 and easy to use. Cannot beat the 1000's though. Got mine from DJ warehouse on a payment option that's costing me only $20 a week. Just lay down as much as you can and get the other on a plan. Easy!!

I have a pair of CDJ400s and they are awesome. Had some experience with 1000s and 200s. Functionality wise they are like the 1000s minus the graphical represantation of the played track. Of course the built quality is nothing like 1000s but they are the closest contender to 1000s not the 800s. CDJ800s are like 200s but build like 1000s, big jogwheel, better quality housing material etc.

Worse thing can happen to a CDJ (other than someone spilling a glass of drink on them) is the Laser pick-up ass'y stuffing up which sets you back $150 or so for the spares.

Now a little bit on the technical side. They all use Freescale (Motorola) DSP chips along the same range of processor family with more or less the same components on the PCBs. Only thing sets them apart is the housing and the controls (knobs, buttons etc)material quality and of course the extra functionality incorporated with 400s and 1000s.

IMO CDJ400s are a very good option when considering functionality vs price.

I have 1000's and love them, would be happy with 800's but hate the feel of the 200's etc, no real reason behind it i just dont like the feel of mixing with them.
