reason DPU problem

Hey, I', having the old problem again with Reason maxing out. The DPU is going into the double red zone causing crackling sounds or like a cd skipping. I had my computer adjusted so that it could handle more by turning of a bunch of processes that I wasn't using, even the graphics. I looked in the task manager/process and there is only 4% CPU being used other then Reason. Reason is taking up about 50% CPU when the song's DPU is maxed out into the red. In Reason's preferances i have it so the CPU reason can use has no limit. So why isn't it using the computers full CPU instead of just 50%?.

My comp has 2GB RAM, can't remember what kind of processor though. It's driving me nuts. In one song i started deleting tracks and merging tracks to free up some space but it actually did the opposite.

Most likely a sound card problem. Check your drivers, your buffer length. i am not to knowledgable on the topic.

i have an M-Audio sound card, and the buffer length (that's like the latency of when you hit the keys right?) is kind of delayed already.

Erm if reason says 100% but your computer says 50%... are you running a dual core cpu? It makes sense that maybe reason is just running on one core.

yeah the computer processor is a AMD dual core i believe, maybe more but i doubt it.

i remember someone at best buy said that reason can only do so much becuase it uses it's own processor and that getting a crazy mac computer wouldn't solve my problem. not too sure how much i believe him though

i think this is it, or pretty similar, i remember the processor being 9000, or 6000 something. not too sure though

no, move your buffer up on your soundcard. try like 512 or higher

Eye, sounds like reason is only using one core then. Hence the 50% in task manager and it saying it's maxing out.

Remember also a higher sample rate=lower latency but the same buffer size so the same cpu use(or maybe not quite, but it's better overall). Try setting the buffer higher, and if the latency is too high set the sample rate higher.
