Novation Remote 25 SL - Good pure controller?

Product Features

* Instant control over sequencers and plug-ins. Automap Universal removes the pain and time involved in assigning MIDI parameters.
* Giant 144-character LCD screen frees the artist from the computer screen, with all essential data next to the relevant controls.
* Semi-weighted 25-key keyboard with after-touch delivers the feeling of playing an instrument, not a computer peripheral
* Ultra fast software control for composers and performers alike
* Huge array of controls suitable for every need, so you get the exact control setup you desire

Novation's line of ReMOTE SL COMPACT MIDI controllers features a huge LCD screen, semiweighted keys with aftertouch, a vast array of controls, large programmable trigger pads, assignable pitch bend/mod wheels and more. MIDI control is provided by Novation's exclusive Automap Universal technology. A giant leap forward, Automap Universal automatically and intelligently maps software and plug-in controls to the knobs and switches of the SL COMPACT. Plug them in and it works Automatically! No Plug and Pray! Simply open up a plug-in and watch the parameters appear on the SL's screens. Every plug-in is given a 'learn' mode for easy and instantaneous mapping of controls - simply click the software parameter, then move a hardware control to automatically assign. In addition, open up any major sequencer and the mixer controls, as well as many other session parameters, are instantly mapped to the ReMOTE SL. A single button allows you to switch between controlling different instruments and the mixer, with all names and values displayed clearly across huge 144-character LCD screens. Large programmable drum pads eradicate the need for separate drumpad triggers, providing the ideal platform for sketching out beats or triggering samples.

The ReMOTE SL Compact MIDI controller is the first keyboard to provide an affordable route to automatic, instant and intelligent control of all major sequencers and all automatable plug-ins. The SL Compact?s giant 144-character screen displays up to eight assigned parameters at once, with the essential data laid out logically right before the user?s eyes.

I'm wanting to get one of these because I feel my mouse is really, really holding me back. I'm not interested in bells & whistles as I have over 40 gigs of VST's - I just want a good controller to cut down on the use of my mouse. It's really, really slowing me down and it has made Ableton border line discouraging. I hate to shell out $300 for a controller, but if its worth it I'll do it. What do you guys think?
