they're both good. The book has more backstory tho, for example, it tells you why the book is called trainspotting. The book is also more of a series of short stories than it is one long story and there were a few stories not put into the movie because they weren't specifically about renton et al.

To be honest, I liked both equally and it's rare for a movie to be just as good the book it came from. They're both spectacular in my opinion.

As the guy above said reason wise, the book is probably better but it's hard to encapsulate everything into a movie so fortunately they didn't try to.

The film is awesome. There's a reason why it's a cult movie

However, the book is absolutely wicked. It's NOT easy to read though, like a normal novel would be. You should start brushing up on your phonetic Scottish

Consider the movie to be the 'softened' version, compared to the intensity of what you'll read in the novel.

What do you mean should you read the book? Of course you should along with the rest of Welsh's works. Don't let the dialect hinder you as it becomes easy to understand very quickly.

Synopsis, please? Wikipedia says nothing about this film, imdb is inconclusive, and I trust your taste

Reminds me of how hard it was for me to understand the film. They should've stuck with Gaelic, them Scots

It's a book, I should have made myself clearer
Synopsis...read it about 7 years ago (I'm amazed at the amount and difficulty of books I read back then, today I'm this intellectually numb, old and tired working putz)...group of friends portrayed in each decade, from the 70s childhood in Scottland, to teenage trouble, to twens excesses at the Oktoberfest, to drug-induced post-quarterlife-crisis in the techno era. Amazing once you're "in it".
