FAO: Denver TA's (or anyone with cost of living information for the Denver area)

So I'm interviewing for at least one (possibly two) positions out there in the next month or two, but kind of need to get a sense as to whether or not I'd be able to actually afford living there.

Basically my first year I'd be making between $35k-$40k, but I'd more than likely also add a part time job on top of that for a little supplementary income. Could a person find a decent place (albeit small) in (or not far from) the city and still have enough money to live out there?

Any other advice or info you can pass along would be super helpful. I'm trying to make sure I have a pretty good idea of what I'm getting into long before I know whether or not I even get the job just so I can be on top of my shit in the event either work out.

Thanks

Here's a thread on city-data.com started by someone making the same salary:

Also, you forget to ask whether Denver would be good for trance!

Yes, that there was only one Hunter Thompson, and millions of half assed impersonators

I will say, however, if this is offered to me, I'm going to take it. That might mean sleeping on the couch of family and friends for a few months, but meh - they all know how badly I want to get out west.

Would also be able to gig much more regularly which is really a massive plus for me.

Thanks JBJ. Definitely looks manageable and not too terribly much more than the national average. I would probably settle for suburbs just to get out there a bit more affordably, at least initially.

That certainly isn't a discouraging factor, but to be honest there are a ton of reasons I want to head to Colorado, not the least of which just being living in the mountains.

short answer to your long question, yes - it really depends on how nice the place you want to live is, one of my friends used to have a studio downtown for like $800ish month so it's definately doable for that amount of coin, especially if you intend to add a part time job

"I’m a dance floor favorite? Great! I would say the passion that I feel for the music I buy and the honesty with how I play it. I play the records I love not the ones that simply work. I’ve never taken the easy music option (which would make me a lot more money by the way) but chosen to push people a little. I try to draw people in a new direction slightly and expand their taste a little more than other DJ’s." - Lee Burridge
