Anybody use it and what's your opinion on it?

I'm using it as refresher for one language and learning a new one. I've only cracked a few lessons and so far I think it's ok as a refresher but not good for a starter. For those who haven't used it, it says/shows you a word or phrase and you repeat the phrase and click on the appropriate picture (out of the 4 shown).

The problem I have is that it doesn't explain what's going on that is the meaning and the grammar behind it. You get thrown in. I guess that's ok for a quick learn to converse but I find that approach confusing especially as you progress to more complex things.

I fail to see the problem. When I learnt to speak my native language (namely, Portuguese), I don't think I had anyone tell me how it worked. If anything, comparing this new language to your native one will just make everything more difficult for you.

I learnt some German that way, and after a couple of months, I knew a lot more than I thought I could ever learn in such a short period of time. And, the best of all, I didn't have to "think" before saying anything.

I heard it was stupid, it just says the word in the language you're trying to learn, with 4 pictures, and you have to pick the picture. You haven't learned the language yet, how are you supposed to know what it is?

I'm brushing up on Spanish and learning Polish. Spanish is going easy but the Polish is hard. I'll give you an example.

When I started with Polish they show a picture of a soccer ball and say pilka. So then I think that's how you say soccer ball but after talking to a friend he says no its a ball that a kid plays with not a soccer ball.

In addition Polish is strange to me because nouns spelling can change for some reason which I'm currently researching on the internet why. Rosette doesn't even throw you hint.

Wait, there isn't a context? Don't they show, like, "synonymous" pictures so you can understand better what it is that they're trying to say?

you know how in Spanish there are different tenses of a verb well polish is like that for nouns at least my limited understand of it.

I'm not saying Rosetta is useless just that its better for learning pronunciation. Its a little early for me to give final judgment but I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I was shock at how much they charge for it based on what I see that it is.

rosetta stone teaches by trial & error marcus, you do get confirmations/negations when you answer though.

Oh, grammatical cases... they're so fun <3

See, you got it right! Now all you have to do is find out why it is that they change (I'm going to be a bastard and tell you that it's got something to do with the role that word is playing in the sentence, and nothing else )

Oh. Well, I think it can be frustrating in the beginning, but... for example, he posted a pic of an elephant, a ball, a plane and a horse. Unless they show pics of different balls (if "pilka" means "ball") or different ways of playing with it (if it means "to play"), how will you ever know if you're wrong?

How far in the language does this method go?
