I agree. A friend and I have been having discussions on a dj's track selection and when it's ok to play cheesy tracks, but I think this might be the real topic that we are discussing. This is because I love that care-free vibe in edm, and always drawn towards tracks like these. But he is more into the new indie-dance-electro-rock-new-sound stuff. He claims that if this genre brings the energy to the crowd, why would I deny that energy. But I used to go out to raves and dance all night, and he's never done anything of that sort.
See I don't want a DJ necessarily just to bring energy (though of course that's always good), but rather I want a DJ to bring a vibe that I can be taken somewhere else with
It's what people want out of a club experience that has changed I think.

Re: *New* dance music with carefree and optimistic vibes?

And I tend to agree. It seems like there's very little EDM today with an "optimistic and carefree" atmosphere. Most of the stuff I encounter now is dark and moody (deep / tech house stuff, psy trance), melodramatic (mainstream trance), or basically emotionless, made just to get people moving (electro house, some techno). Whereas if I look back in time it seems like it's almost impossible not to find stuff that radiates the kind of positive, carefree mood you find in Orbital's "Belfast" or a lot of epic house, for example.
So, do you think that the average mood of dance music has shifted over the past fifteen to twenty years? And if so, why might this be?
And can anyone recommend me some recent feelgood stuff? |
why do you want recent? im sure there's plenty of old stuff you havent heard
