iMac vs. Mac Pro?

ive been using cubase on a pc for 4 years now and have the option of getting a high spec pc with a quad core processor and upto 8 gig ram for around £500 and continue with cubase or get an iMac or Mac Pro and move onto Logic.

Is it worth paying the extra cash and getting the mac or should I remain with the PC?

Also is it worth splashing out the money on the Mac Pro or will the iMac do the job?

a bit more info....

iMac Specs
----------

2 GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM
250GB Serial ATA Drive
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Logic Express 8

Cost: £950

Mac pro Specs
-------------

2GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
250GB Serial ATA @ 5400
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Cost: £1,495

Appreciate any help!

Do you want to erase everything youve learned about production and start from scratch? If so, id say get a Mac, if not..why bother? Stay with PC.

Now I will post the only valid point that ever gets made in this sort of thread:

The best hardware and software is whatever works for you. People can tell you all day about what they think is best, but that might be the opposite of what you personally enjoy using, so their advice is absolutely useless except in cases where you're looking for specific features that a DAW / piece of equipment may or may not have.

ive never used a mac or logic so i dont no if ill like it or not. so someone who has used both would be able to insight into the pro's and con's of both. of course the PC would be great in terms of spec and continuing with a product ive adopted to but then theres bad habits with it so a change might be a good thing. just not sure though if the spec on the mac is worth the money. its not much better that my current pc.

Negative. I used a PC and FL Studio for 5 years and switched to Mac and Logic a few months ago. Took about 2 weeks to get familiar with its ins and outs. I can't say I know much about Logic's previous incarnations, but Logic 8 is very user-friendly and intuitive. Either way, the theory is still the same.

same, started making music with pc and fruity loops back in the days and then switch to mac and logic express 7 and finally logic studio 8. My biggest help was macprovideo.com tutorials. If you have lots of money go with mac pro, i have the same imac you mention with max ram and its great but it is getting little slow in big sessions with lot of plugins...but still no huge problems with that.

Cubase also runs on the Mac. Actually pretty much any PC software runs on a Mac if you use Boot Camp.

I would go with the Pro that way you have slots you can stick cards into like a nice audio interface, and UAD cards, etc...

I just switched over about 6 months ago since a lot of the gear I need to use is Mac only, and so are the programs since everyone I collab with is using Logic. I was reluctant at first, but really am glad now even though it I had to drop down some cash.

the imac is very futuristic design, i like it. the mac pro is a fucking old shity shit looking shit, just like stationary PCs, godamn stupid concept if u think of it really; why the hell would u need a big ugly box with alot of air in it and thousands of cables? if the imac came with a keyboard and some sort of mouse in one item i would get it, image only 1 cable from between keyboard/mouse and screen/computer, then another cable for power. then all the speakershit crap but thats another story. get the imac.
edit: btw does it have firewire? if not toss it

the iMac has firewire, yeah (6 pin IEEE 1394). The design of the machine is fantastic, and looks great in my studio. Lots of air around the machine is a good thing though, when referring to the Mac pro, keeps it much more cool. I hate wires as much as anyone else, though.
