Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

You have to set the latency on the soundcard up.

512 samples tends to be a sweetspot, depending on your specs of course.

Exactly. The clicks and pops are audio dropouts. This is caused by your CPU not being able to keep up. Increase your latency setting and this should help. During mixdown you can work with very high latency settings, since you do not need real-time response. I have worked as high as 2048.

You should be able to set your buffer in your DAW preferences. If I knew which DAW package you were using, I may be able to give you more specific instructions.

If you have a crappy audio interface, this could be the problem. All my M-Audio interfaces crackled and popped. Once I upgraded to MOTU, perfectly clear audio.

Dude if u cant figure out how to increase the buffer on your soundcard you`re better of with a job on Burger King

Seriously, read the manual, visit your manufacturers support or forum, try googling it.. its an easy thing to do on all soundcards tbh.

All e-mu cards can be accessed this way. Only difference is e-mu has milliseconds instead of samples. On most newer machines a latency of 10-12 ms should be fine for this card.
But seriously, this is like the "bold text" option in office. Simple and essential. Just follow what Subtle wrote. It's a really simple process.
