I have been wanting to go to Ibiza for some time now! Was hoping before my dirty thirty but being a few months off is not to bad!
The plan of attack is to go Mid July. Staying for for 11 days.
When is the best time to book a flight? Most travel sits have package deal where you can get a flight and a hotel, would that be the best bet?
Also where is a good inexpensive place to stay???
Like the List for WMC is there a site for the events that happen at Ibiza?
Besides the night life what else should I check out??
I know I need to save about 4-5 G's for this trip |
Hi Michelle
- Book a flight whenever, it doesn't really matter. There are many low cost carriers that operate during the summer that can get you from wherever you land in Europe to the Island. Spanair, EasyJet, Vueling, and Clickair spring to mind. The key will be to get a good airfare from LA to Europe, after that its very cheap.
- Mid July is a great time to go. Its quite busy although not yet at peak attendance which is generally during mid August.
- As for accomodations, its typically best to share a place with friends which of course makes it alot cheaper. A good place that is not expensive and definitely not a dump is Hotel Garbi in Playa D'en Bossa. Its walking distance to Space and Bora Bora and is right on the beach. You could find cheaper accomodation on the other side of the Island in San Antonio, but the downside is that its very British and staying there will not give you a proper flavor of what the Island is all about. Playa d'en Bossa is located not very far from the airport and is much more European, which imo is the way to go. There are also other places on the Island that have good rates. Check the Spotlight site as they have relationships with most hotels on the Island and allow you to make your reservation directly from their web site.
- The Spotlight Calendar (not sure where the link to the 2009 calendar is) is a good place to keep track of all the events. Once they get their dates in place, just bookmark it and watch it religiously to keep track of who is playing where.
A few other items that you may want to consider.....
- Rent a car. It will save you a lot of money in cab fares and is well worth it, particularly as it will allow you the chance to explore different places on the Island. You will not be sorry.... (speak up Josh Allen)
- Set aside a day of your trip to visit Ibiza's smaller sister Island - Formentera. Its absolutely beautiful and has some of the most pristine beaches in the Mediterranean. Set aside a day when you are not going out the night before, wake up at a decent hour and go to the Marina and catch the ferry to Formenerra and just chill for the day. Mandatory at least once imo.
- Set aside an afternoon or two to cruise around the Island to see various non clubbing related places like Blue Marlin, Salanas, Cap de Falco, various places in San Antonio, as well as Portinatx, San Miguel. Just get in the bloody car and drive and see where it takes you.
I look forward to seeing you guys there. I'll be there for much of the summer so give me a shout!

If you look, you can find good deals. I did 7 days a few years back and got flight from LA and hotel in Playa Den Bossa for about 1400. Hotel was right on the water, rooms were OK, but never spent much time there so no biggie. But, as I am sure others who have gone will attest, most of your $ is spent running around and partying. There are some ways to minimize that, but not many. I don't remember how much I spent, but I went out every night, did some day parties as well as rented a car for a few days and didn't feel too pinched, but you can see how you can go crazy if you wanted to and spend a lot.
