Unhappy Rising cost of synthesisers and gear

has anyone else noticed the rising cost of new synthesisers and gear ?
not just newly released stuff but everything.

its quite shocking

I was tempted by a Korg Radias when they were £800 including keyboard now they are much more. I also bought a Fantom XR with 2 free SRX boards for about £750 when they first came out.

Yea, the prices on all gear has gone up here in AUS as well.

I'm no economics/marketing expert but from my understanding it was mostly because weak dollar + small margins (most electronics) = price rise.

Well, this seems the case in AUS since our dollar is nearly half a US dollar.

Price drops only here as the Euro seems pretty stable

I just bought a focusrite liquidmix which has just dropped 100E in price 2/3 weeks ago because of the drop of the GBP

With the U.S. economy in the dumps, I've been finding steals on hardware synths on eBay left and right. After looking at my 401K, I've realized that investing my money in these synths is probably a better investment.

At least once a week I go on ebay for a couple of hours and just druel at some of the prices on their synths.

I'm not looking to have my place packed with 10 different synths, all I need is one good one and I'll be set. Right now I have the xio which I never use for its sounds (cause it sucks lets face it) But I think in another month or 2 I'm gonna dish out for the nord rack.
They usually go for 6-700 used on ebay .

Is that a decent price (used) or anyone know any cheaper ways to get one?
And do Nords have a rep for breaking? I'd hate to dish out all the money to have it break in 2 months.

I'd seriously recommend getting the NL2X over the NL2 - much more on-board memory and better DACs. The NL2's memory expansion cards are a huge pain, hard to find, and very expensive. I sold my Nord Rack 2X for about $650 a few months ago . I may pick up another one at some point because it's such an awesome synth.

Keep an eye out a vintagesynthexplorer.com's classifieds sections - I see Nord Leads over there pretty frequently and often at very good prices.

Synthesizers are cheaper and more reliable than they've ever been. The Yamaha CS-80 was $7,000 ($20,000 in 2009 dollars) when it was released thirty years ago. Now, you can get an Alesis Andromeda which has double the voices and is a lot more stable for $3,000.

I have noticed that, for example, the price of the Access Virus has gone up over the past couple years by about $300. And that the Nord Wave is considerably more expensive in USD than the Nord Lead 3 was (from what they said at announcement, the Wave was intended to be cheaper than the Lead 3).

In the past 5 years it does seem that there has been a growth in the aficianado base for vintage synths worldwide. This growing interested could be attributed to the worldwide accessibility of dance music that didn't exist in the past. Also a lot of indie rock records are being recorded with them these days, so thats trickling down the garage bands and even the bigger studios, pushing the prices up. I think they will keep going up.

Most people involved with dance music don't use much hardware, and when they do nearly never vintage synths. But yes i agree a lot more music seems to be using synths these days.

Really? How do you know dance producers dont use hardware? Because of all the fruity loops, reason, ableton producers here? Majority of my favorite producers use hardware.
