Can someone please post a list with some techno essentials? I mean just like with trance, techno will also have some really 'classic tunes'. I know this is a trance forum, but I also know that there's some techno lovers out here. And because there are very few great trance tracks released at the moment I want to expand my horizons a little and also try some techno. A few songs I really like are listed here, so you'll get an idea of what techno music I listen to right now:
Chris Liebing - Analogon EP
Devilfish - Man Alive
Elektrochemie LK - Schall (Thomas Schumacher Remix)
Mauro Picotto - Bug
Mauro Picotto - Baguette
Mauro Picotto - Awesome!!!
Plastikman - Spastik
Slam - Lifetimes (I just can't believe this is called techno!)
Speedy J - Electric Deluxe
Speedy J - Kreck
The Hacker - Nothing Lasts (Oxia Remix)
Thomas Schumacher - Ficken (IMO this is a classic!)
Thomas Schumacher - When I Rock (this one definitely rocks)
Toneking - Pneu
Umek - Gatex
Hope some of you will post some great tracks here!

Crystal method - Now is the time (don't know what you'd call classic though) I really like...if I'm getting the wrong definition of 'techno' just tell me and I'll try to come up with different suggestions

Thanks for the help guys. Really appreciate it. BTW Kirby, with 'classic tunes' I mean tunes that are spun even years after their release. Such as CJ Bolland's The Prophet or Delerium's Silence (and then ofcourse the Tiësto Remix). Some techno classic tunes are e.g. Speedy J - Pull Over (??? Remix) or Thomas Schumacher - When I Rock.

The first insanely nice techno track I ever heard was Prodigy - Firestarter.
I think that's definatly a classic. More mainstream, but still classic techno.

Prodigy ain't THAT mainstream... I luv em anyways...
What genre would you describe them?
Anyways...
While you're at it, I wud luv it if people would list as many sub-genres to Techno and give an example or 2 for each sub, to emphasize the difference...
you can ad fabio mc - klaube, that's the first track that mauro @ innercity 2001 played (and finally identified ), i just love it.

I really like the idea oDrori mentioned about making a list of sub-genres with examples. By this it's easier to post 'techno essentials' within a particular techno-genre. Kirby posted Crystal Method - Now Is The Time as one of his favourite tracks, but I really don't like that kind of techno. I'm more into the harder techno sound like Mauro Picotto spins. And producers like Thomas Schumacher, Chris Liebing, Speedy J. I definitely don't like the 'slowdown' techno. (BTW I downloaded Fabio MC - Percutor today and I really love it, so I will try Klaube as well. Thanks for the tip Nook).
