Actually it can be the software. I've never owned Torq, but I have owned both Serato and Traktor Scratch, and the software handles worn turntables, carts, rca cords, etc much better in Traktor than Serato, but I haven't used Serato in years, so maybe it is better now.

It's weird. I've had Torq for about a year now and experience the same problems. But usually a re-install does the trick. It starts to skip, the pitch goes randomly up and down, and the sound quality starts to get sketchy. So like every 3 months I have to reinstall crap and tweak my computer to get it back to normal.
