The error allowed him to view the personal information of up to 588 students, including their name, gender, date of birth, student number, mailing address, and Social Insurance Number. “Based on the information from the first student we could get the scope of the problem,” said Driscoll. “But we didn’t have enough information to find (the error).” Two more students also notified the school about the error. On the third occasion, on Jan. 9, the university pinpointed the glitch and designed a patch they say fixed the error. Driscoll said upwards of 363 other students may have had seen the error and the university is investigating to see what information may have been exposed. Ernst & Young, an accounting and auditing firm, has since reviewed the system and says the patch fixed any vulnerability. Officials say they don’t believe there has been any misuse of the information that was exposed, and Sheldon Levy, president of the institution, has commended the students who initially noticed the error. Ryerson upgraded its Student Administration System on Nov. 17, 2008 and it would have been used by thousands of students before the error was fixed. The university is in the process of contacting all the students who may have had their information revealed, as well as the students who may have had access to the information. no one hacked shit. they had a glitch. hackers don't report themselves to the organization the hacked.
