I would never get dual cd decks because if something goes wrong with one, you have to totally modify your setup to accomodate a new deck. You can't replace just one of the decks, you have to replace both--even if only one is broken. Not only that, I believe that all or at least most of the dual decks are rack mount--meaning that you have a rack mount case to set up your system appropriately. Single decks are more arrangable. Not only that, but with cd decks, you definitely want to stay away from top loading and trays. This leaves you with only a few very expenisve options if you insist on dual decks.

The best warranty in the world won't help you if someone in the crowd knocks into your eq and breaks off your cd tray or if something gets stuck etc. Even at the slightest risk of that happening, I wouldn't want to bring my eq into a place with a mob of excited people that are dancing like mad right next to my $2,000 worth of eq!

i have dual cd decks.. reason being its much more space economical because i plan to get a rack to accomidate my amp and the cd decks and i can mount my new mixer (djm3000 in a few weeks) up w/ the cd controller for the decks.. right now i just have the decks on top of my amp on the table i have for my setup.. now if u just plan to get one deck, then obviously the single deck is better, but if ur gonna get two decks, u might as well just get the dual set.. anyways, i really only wanted one because i don't mix too many cd's, when i have money i always spend it on vinyl, not CDs; but i guess eventually i'll have enough cd's to make use of the dual decks, i don't play cdr's cos i think thats weak so i refuse to.. but i dunno, its up to u, the basic advantage of having the dual decks is saving space i guess..

Duals, definately!
Sure, it saves space! That's a very important thing ...
Now, I have 2 Pioneers myself, and they run smoothly - but the real power lies in the Denon series, their dual decks! Whoa! All these functions! Sure, they're much more complicated to use, but they're extremely professional! I think they're much much better than the stand-alone Pioneers. Of course, what makes a good dj is creativity, but having good tools is important too! Besides, all the major clubs here in Copenhagen use dual Denon - ofcourse, this maybe not be of importance to you I guess it's simpler to learn how to mix with single players, but if you're planning on being pro, then you should give it a thought.
And yeah, duals are rack mountable. Don't you guys have racks?
Ah, well, just my humble opinion
stay cool

I only spin cd-rs, not because I steal my music, but because I find it is much easier to deal with a disc with only one track on it. I listen to all the mixes on the single I buy and then I burn the one that I like the best onto a new cd. I find it easiest when I don't have to worry about the next track starting etc. I don't have to worry about loosing or scratching an original copy etc. So I burn all of my singles with the time of the track, the artist, title and mix, along with what type of track it is (heavy, progressive, epic etc). It's a great way to mix with cds. You can also record each of the tracks at a specific bpm to make beatmatching easier so you can spend more time on effects and lower the stress levels of screwing up live.
