Hey there!
I've been trying to record a set, but I keep hearing these crackling sounds in my speakers and headphones.

I thought they were the cables, and when I observed the the calibration circles, whenever the noises were there, it said "Skipping"

What does that mean? And what's the solution?

I'm starting to think that my control CDs are screwed up though they look fine from the bottom. Hardly any scratches.



Check out the attached picture. It's a screenshot that I just took a few minutes ago.

Notice how the beats go off track when the skipping occurs while the calibration circles sorta get jumbled up.

Help me out here peeps! I've got a gig coming up and I'm shitting my pants!

It's not working correctly then (ie, it's not just a display issue)?

What is your latency setting set to?

What Ryan said, Seems to be your latency is too low.

System specs would also be useful.

Has this problem only just surfaced or was it running perfectly up until recently?

If this has only started happening since you've tried to record your set, maybe your computer can't handle whichever program you're using to record your set? What are you using to record yourself?

And regarding the problem, well, it started off with a few crackling noises here and there but I ignored them thinking they were mainly from the headphones or something. it started getting worse and worse until I noticed the calibration circles.

As for the recording, I can record through Traktor Scratch directly.

1.5ms!

That's WAY too low. Bump that up to at least 4.

Ryan's right...

Unless your system is purely dedicated to Traktor, and that means no wireless internet, no antivirus software running in the back ground. No unnecessary tasks running while you have TSP running etc. Basically stripping your computer down to the minimum then you might get 1.5ms out of it.

I've got a Macbook Pro and run mine at around 8-11.5ms or around that.

I guarantee you bring that latency up and the crackles will go away.

You wont recognise the slower latency as audibly it's too difficult to spot.

thanks for the help. I did change the latency to 4.0 and I still got crackling sounds. Though they did decrease

One thing though. the calibration circles were still screwed up just like in the above images and the messages this time said "Wrong Mode"

help?

Even 4ms is pretty low, you might want to bump that up a little higher until the crackles go away.

The "wrong input mode" error when using control CD's is a known bug in Traktor Scratch, but it's just a display thing and doesn't affect the operation of the software. They finally fixed that in Traktor Pro, though.

I tried mixing a set today but the crackling noises were there even though I changed the latency to 5, 6...etc.

This is seriously starting to bug me!
I bought a new pair of control CDs and they somewhat sound better.

Put the latency up to 10 or 15.. keep raising it until the crackling goes away.

Thing is, why did all this happen? It never used to be like that at all.

Could there be an explanation for this?

Raise your sample rate if you still hear crackling with high latency! See if 48000 is an option.
