I just purchased maudio Firewire410


what are some good recommendations on settings?

Download the latest driver from the maudio website - don't use the one on the disk as chances are it's out of date.

Usually a buffer size of 512 samples is a good balance, and make sure the correct ins/outs are selected in your software.

set the prebuffer to 371 samples. i find this is a good delay/reliability trade off. as dj rann said though, set the main buffer for 512 samples and the post buffer to 128 samples. i used to own one of these cards so i know them inside out... you should really set the volume profile to -14dbv and the pan law to -3db. you should enable spdif on the analog outputs too, so you can take advantage of the quality increase. not all cards let you do this, but the 410 does. all these settings can be found on the control panel of the card. if your daw allows you to use the m-audio anticipative fx processing, you should use that too, and set the timeout to 50ms or so - this will be in the preferences of your daw. i don't know what daws support it, since it doesnt exist, so you will need to suss it out in the manual that came with your daw.

I was just about to say I've never heard of that (especially the profile to -14db ) but not having used a 410 for about 5 years, I wasn't going to contradict.....

What specifically is giving you trouble? There's little you can do with it. The only real variables are audio sample rate and buffer size... The rest of it is just signal routing.

As the article eventually summarizes, in the end you'll have to be the judge of what setting is best for your setup.
Like DJ RANN, I'm content with 512, but I haven't really bothered trying to fine tune it at all. Usually if I'm getting ASIO overloads, it's my own damn fault! Get rid a little unnecessary crap, or bounce out or freeze a problem-child track, and problems solved.
