Just want to preface this mix with a few things:
*I've been very frustrated with my mixing lately, I can't seem to
make any noticeable improvements and my mixes always sound lifeless
and imprecise, at least to my ears.
*This mix is very fast and loose, very little prep time was put into
it and although I knew generally what tracks I wanted to use, it all
came together pretty much on the spot.
*The flow is off in some places, there are some horrible sounding jump
transitions in terms of eqing, and some of the tracks are quite
misplaced which I'll blame on me not knowing some of these tracks
very well.
*That Ape Men track between Ghost Song and California Gold absolutely
killed the energy, both through my mixing and track selection.

Anyways, what I'm getting at is this is very last minute, it's definitely not perfect, and what I'm mainly looking for is constructive criticism. Anything involving mixing in general, midi controllers + Ableton, and things of that nature are things I think I could use some pointers on.

Sorry for all the self-degradation, I've just hit a standstill lately in terms of mixing and I'm trying to push myself a bit more. Enjoy if you so choose; I hope the track selection is at least somewhat interesting, haven't had much digging time lately and I've noticed the same labels keep popping up in all my mixes.

Will check it man, I've heard your previous 2 mixes and there was a very noticeable progress from one to the other. You're probably just being too hard on yourself

Anyways, expect a full review soon

Hmm... after a couple listens today I actually think this may be a step back from my last one in a couple areas. It may just be me nitpicking though, I'll just wait for some feedback.

I listened to this on the car on my morning commute and then finished it @ the office. I now stand by my comment that you were probably just being too hard on yourself. This mix was awesome bro, and I enjoyed it far more than Dog Days. Not only musically, but programming-wise.

I promised you an in depth review, so here it goes!

Track Selection

Awesome job here mate. I've said it a lot here on TA that the main problem with most Tech House DJs is that their sets are too samey and end up boring me to death. Such is not the case here. You chose tracks that balance the "tech" and the "house" pretty damn well.

Mixing

Don't put yourself down bruv, your mixing was pretty on spot most of the time. There were a few weird transitions here and there but nothing that sounds awful. On some of those I noticed the EQing was a bit off or you had a perfect blend but then killed the outgoing track too quickly and on others it was mainly that the two songs didn't go that well together and getting them to sound seamless and smooth would have been extremely hard.

An example of the latter is the transition between the first two vocal tracks. Not really sure which they are since I was driving at the time but the incoming track has a much quieter bassline and drums than the outgoing track and the transition sounds a bit abrupt.

Programming and flow

I thought your programming this time around was much better than on Dog Days. You begin techy and slow and build the mood and energy at just the right pace until it gets pretty damn housey and groovy and then you bang the roof off. I found it really hard not to rave my tits off on the car. Thank God for tinted windows!!!

Unlike with Dog Days, where I felt that it dragged on a bit at the end, this was totally not the case with this one. Solid throughout. I gotta tell you, I totally forgot that Lost Vagueness was in here and it came as a very pleasant surprise. When I heard it creep in I JIZZED. IN MY PANTS! It sounds as fresh as the day it came out, not dated at all. This shows you have developed quite a good ear.

So, overall I'll say that this is by far my favorite set from you to date. Keep it going mate, you can tell from this mix that you have talent. Perfect those minor mixing shenanigans and you're golden.
