I have many compressors, and I like alot of them alot, most have their own character. When I really got to grips with compression, I have often felt it was easier for me to get the results I was after with Live's own compressor. There are many that could sound better for different materials but, it has been the quickest for me to get results. Also its a matter of preference too.
Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

And he recommends -6dbfs peaks.
So again, countless engineers recommend -3dbfs -6dbfs or more headroom for DAW summmed mixes.
