I've been using the beta, and can't stand the alt-F4 search box. I much preferred a pop-up. The box stays on top, even when you switch pages, and I constantly got to close it. Pain in the ass.
Some sites, it won't generate the full page, and you gotta click on the compatibility broken page icon next to the address bar to regenerate the page.
I'm not happy so far.

Speed
In terms of actual rendering, Microsoft made a bold move last week when it announced performance tests that showed IE8 trumping Firefox 3.05 and Chrome 1.0. This wasn't your typical synthetic JavaScript speed test though; Microsoft trumpeted real-world usage of websites and demonstrated how IE loaded the most (out of the top 25) websites faster.
Standards
In terms of improved standards support, IE8 now passes the Acid 2 test completely... Microsoft is ... touting that out of the 7,200 CSS 2.1 tests that are on the w3.org, IE8 passes more of them than any other browser.
The leaps Microsoft has taken between IE6 and IE7, as well as between IE7 and IE8, are arguably larger than those any other browser maker has made in its major versions
