Transition - Big new track for me guys hope you like (Melodic Trance 320kbps)

Transition_Richard Wilson.mp3 - Richard Wilson

My first real bash at the big melodic sound. I really hope it goes down well

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

Keep in mind this is all stricktly personal, I think the general sound quality and harmonics are good but I overally didn't like the track.

I think many of your elements need some more agressive FX, especially some delay.
Without it everything is too clear IMO and the track becomes very repetitive.
Same goes for percs, especially that crash which is very dominant and sounds cookie cut to me.

Hope that helped.

Well not really as it is drenched in fx both delay and reverb send and insert it also has 5 melodies! and a lead part. Is this reactionary to my feeds on your track?

You definitely nailed the 'hands in the air', 'big' trance sound; something one would hear, for instance, on ASOT

Also could someone comment on the kick. I'll explain its a vengence kick people say they are already compressed but i compressed again pretty heavily and then the whole tune went through a multiband. Is it over compressed i cant hear but my ears are not tuned to overcompression?

Listening.

The farting bass doesnt fit maybe try lowering the octave.

The bass doesnt sit well, and the kick is totally drowned.

The melody isnt too bad, or well some of them, little bit much of melodies and stuff.

The bass and kick sounds good on its own, but the lead sounds are too loud.

The pads works well.

But too many synths doing different things overall.

The lead at 4:11 works well, i love that one!

But that other lead is out of place.

Overall not too bad, u are on to something, but you got to make it more consistent.

Thats my thoughts of the track.

Thanks subtle thats why i wanted comment on the kick i couldnt get it to sit right even after compressing the hell out of it. Also the gain structure before mastering might interest you kick was at -3 with leads etc not going past -5.5 so interesting that the leads got so loud. Maybe it was the multiband at the end stage that boosted them too high but i definately put the kick right at the front of the mix but obviously didnt work. Thanks for feeds.

Dont look so much at the meters, in most tunes nowadays the kick peaks at -3 - 0db.

Its all about balance though, the lead sounds doesnt balance well with the kick and bass.

for the first good crack at a new genre i say it's not bad. and like i said before many people are afraid to step out off their comfort zone in case they can not make anything worth listening to.

so its a bit pointless my telling you what is good or bad about the track you made just yet. until you decide on making some more and by doing so get some practice in.

Im going to re-visit the mix and maybe even write some new elements just to make more entertaining maybe take some of the melodic contect out for longer sections have some swooshes etc. I was literally the first mix of my first real go at multi melody trance so im pretty happy i got some things right. Thanks everyone
