Should I buy a Xone:92, DJM-800 or Rane TTM-57SL?

I currently use SSL with my Rane Empath mixer and I want to upgrade to gain effects. What mixer do you recommend I purchase and why?

Just curious, are you able to use the buttons on the TTM-57SL to engage the auto loop function assuming SSL knows the BPM or must you use your mouse? Also, assuming SSL knows the BPM are the effects on beat (in sync) or must you "tap" them?

Thanks in advance!
Anthony

inb4the "xone:92 or bust" kids

i love the TTM-57SL, and while i'm not positive i'm pretty sure you can use the buttons to engage just about anything in serato, or you can at least configure it to do so. my only gripe is that it's a 2-channel which for me is extremely limiting. i don't like the djm-800 that much because i don't like pioneer's cueing system. and if the xone:92 cue system is the same as the xone:62 then i would stay away from it also, personally. i can't stand the xone:62.

I currently own a Rane and love it. Other than the feel of the fader and knobs what do you think of the functionality?

I own a Rane Empath and would never consider buying another mixer. The thing with Rane is that I know that it has excellent sound quality and that it isn't going to break down, ever. The thing with Allen and Heath is that it may sound a little bit better than a Rane mixer (both of which have better sound quality than the Pioneer), but so many people I've talked to have their Allen and Heath break. I know this one guy who went on tour with the Xone 92, and I asked him how he liked the mixer. He said he loved it, and that he owned three of them. I asked why he owned three of them, and he said it was because one is being fixed currently, one is being used on the road and the other is the backup for the one he's using right now. I'm not sure what the person's problem with Rane's faders and eqs is... Every DJ I talked to has nothing bad to say about Rane products, although some prefer the crossfader on other mixers better.

Hmm, well the Xone 92 only has filters, and a terrible effects setup (not a regular loop, it's a studio style send/returns thing).

The 800 has effects, but they are fairly cheesy.

The TTM-57 is nice, but pricey.

I think you should either look at an external effects unit for your empath (which is already an awesome mixer), or swap out the SSL for Traktor Scratch Pro, which has a ton of useful effects and filters and will sync up to your tracks automatically.

I'm feeling kind of dumb now because I never really thought about buying at EFX1000 instead. I have not used or seen an EFX1000, what do you think of it?

I had an EFX-1000 for about 3 years. It's a nice unit. Some of the effects can be a little "cheesy" sounding until you learn how to tweak the parameters and really be very subtle with them.

The one thing it's missing is a Xone-like filter. The filter effect on it is a sweep, kind of like a phaser, and not as useful as a full set of high, bandpass and low filters.

Once I upgraded to Traktor Pro, I bought a Stanton SCS.3D MIDI controller, and now just use the effects in the software. Everything I could do on the EFX I can do in the software (plus filters), and much more. Just a thought

An EFX-1000 is pretty pricey (around $700 USD), not sure it's worth that much. The cheaper EFX-500 is very dated (came out TEN years ago!) and the sound quality is lacking.

There's also the Korg Kaoss Pads. A different approach, but definitely neat units.

yeah, forgot about the effects setup. it's a pain. not to mention the need for 1/4" plugs instead of RCAs (or a 1/4"-to-RCA conversion thingie). then again it has a sweet (though unnecessary) 4-band EQ and 4 channels to fuck around with. and the filters sounds fantastic.
