Some listening advice

I stopped making dance years ago but i check in here a few times a year. I always like to check up on electronic music because they tend to have the most cutting edge production.

Wondering if you could share a list of in your mind the best EDM producers at the moment. And by best, i am interested in people that are really making new strides in the art of production. Not interested in melody or harmony or engineering but more so production aesthetics. Also , the style is not that important. It can be trance, house , hardstyle , jungle ....

thanks in advance.

Well, as this is a personal preference, I will give you a list of my favourite producers . Most of these are progressive trance/house producers, because that's what I listen to most:

- Duderstadt (Impetto), really loving their basses and the use of the stereo image
- Gareth Emery, always top notch tunes
- Komytea/Michael Cassete, really loving the deep stuff!
- Proff, another deep one
- 16 Bit Lolitas, always innovative, never the same!
- Cosmic Gate
- Rank 1
- Andy Moor

The list can go on and on, but these are some producers of which I think they are consistantly good!

Such a dutch list

My tip is that electro was the big thing, tech house is the big thing, and deep house is the next big thing. Don't know if this holds worldwide, but its that way in sydney IMO.

In terms of artists, I'm loving the Romboy/Eyerer/Bodzin/Boratto sound at the moment for techno...

For deep house I'm a sucker for anything from Shur-i-kan, Dousk, etc... Theres about 5-6 good labels which are relasing the quality on the tech house/Deep house tip, but I'm going to make you do some research yourself.

Trance is pretty dead, although you can rely on the old favourites to still bring some decent stuff occasionally... Jose Amnesia, Gareth emery, Jonas Steur etc are bringing some decent stuff, although rarely. I'm not relying on labels I previously did (not mentioning names) because they've followed a sound I don't like and isn't even trance any more.

In terms of sheer engineering credibility, I think you can't go past Burial, Babicz, Joris Voorn, Minilogue, stimming and associates. Most of the good action is going on between deep house and tech house, its become very blurry in that area.

no question for me, go check out the Bang Gang label on beatport. The Damn Arms - Destination & a variefy of their releases are astounding. keyboard solos, bass solos, good production technique, just over all wonderful music writing & engineering.

From a production point of view, Jaytech has been head and shoulders above most in the last year. The combination of good sounds, proper mixing and well used fx is just outstanding. Check out Pyramid, Aha, pepe's garden - fuck it, check em all out.

Dousk indeed is quite incredible - "florence" from a while back is so complex and well made.

Not my favourite in terms of compostion (but still very good productions) is Sebastian Leger - he also does very clever takes on existing tracks (Jaguar for instance).
