How do I assign my xboard knobs to VST variables?

I can see the controls in Cubase SX3 reading the movements but how do I assign them to particular knobs on a VSTi?

I want to get hands on to my soft synths!

I have seen Cubase 4 has "Quick controls" which apparently allows this but there must be a way in SX3?

Read the manual for it. I'm sure there's a learn or assign key/mode.
