Need help identifying how this sound was created....

I don't even know what instrument is used with this sound. It's obviously an orchestral one, but the pitch on it is very high. I want to say violin, but could it be a high pitched cello?

I was also wondering what method (vst?) was used in achieving it. I have a lot of respect for this particular artist, and have heard him use sounds like this in other songs and I've always wondered where they came from because they're just flat beautiful.

Here is the persons profile: http://www.myspace.com/robertvadney

It is the second song, "Black Clown" - The sound in question can be found @ 1:55 in the song...(such a great song too)

you can also hear a very similar sound in the "second sky" track @ beginning at 50 seconds in it

This guy has more talent in his toe nail than I do in my entire body

thx!!!

First of all..

LOL "gothic trance"

Secondly, It sounds like a synth. It sounds like z3ta to be honest. A normal Cello doesn't get that hi i believe. But it sounds too synthy to be an actually stringed instrument. So my money is its a synth.

Let me see if i can reproduce it.

Second Sky sound IS a fiddle. [viola]

Edit" correction, I listened to the wrong song.. :P Yes in the song you mentioned is either a violin or a viola.

Edit:

Made with GPO My viola doesn't go as high as his however.

You should hear his Halloween album - Very interesting album. The gothic trance thing is kind of funny, but the guy is a big time goth. Used to talk with him quite frequently until he flipped out on me over some stupid ass shit. Regardless, I got mad respect for his music. Thanks for your help. Going to see what I can do with Philharmonik tomorrow. I like that sound!
