What's the chillout scene like (these days)?

Can somebody point me to artists today who are turning out good stuff?

Do you get 'cheese' in the chillout / downtempo scene? Re: the Cafe del Mar series? Which ones are generally considered to be the best?

I have bought and recommend...

And artists like Burial, Tokyo Boulevard, and Tso... etc...

Complete mish-mash of a posting, but I guess the bottom line is... I'm after chillout downtempo music, but super-chilled, not stuff that claims to be chilled and works itself up into a Sean Tyas frenzy.

It's a bit old but I highly recommend the Electric Calm Series from GU. Especially Volume 2, it's the best of them all.

Releases from Ultimae Records trumps damn near anything else out there.

I'll check it out, thanks. Manifold Records are pretty awesome, too.

cool stuff, I can't believe i've never heard of these guys. Actually a good comparable group would be 'theivery corporation' most notably their 'mirror conspiracy' album.

Peace Orchestra - Peace Orchestra

A favorite of mine from 1999, by Peter Kruder (of Kruder & Dorfmeister).
