I've got a friend who is using a mac and really needs some help finding some good free and/or cheap vsts. i played dblue glitch for him on the phone and he liked it a lot and now is extremely interested in vsts
(he was big on hardware and just the ableton 8 vsts, he has used them exclusively for 4 years but he's ready to broaden his arsenal)
First and foremost, is there a dblue glitch for mac, and if there isn't, is there anything close?
Is there a place where he can go that has long lists of free mac vsts?
What are some essential vsts available for mac that he needs to be?
(Sorry for all the questions. thank you in advance)
Meh, just learn to do it by hand. The time it takes to learn to use dblue tastefully (read: in a way where everyone can't tell you're using dblue), you can learn to do the stuff by hand just as well. Speaking from experience :/

Fully agree, i hate distinctly hearing glitch in so many productions it takes away from the intrigue of how someone did a certain sound. Though i'm guilty of it on transitions as well

Don't want to sound like an ass, but can we stick to the original post. I don't want this thread veering off course.
how about manually? chop shit up, for retriggers use a gridless piano roll. Use Waves Gate plugin for gating, Flanger and Modulating Filter for other stuffs. And use fast attack and fast release on compressor. Its more work but more control. Dblue is indeed priceless if you want to mangle quickly, I use a mix of dblue and manual glitching. But the most fun is bouncing a loop and then bringing in a few copies into a sampler and then messing with them in there.
What I do want to find is a powerful reversal vst.
