[FAO gehzumteufel/ other tech nerds] Selling my current laptop to get a new one

So I'm planning on selling my macbook for $850 just because I'm tired of mac and its limitations. I'm looking into getting a new laptop for roughly the same price (maybe $100 or so more).

Minimum requirements:

250 gig hd (preferably 7200 rpm)
3 gigs of ram (prefer 4+)
2.4ghz dual core processor
dedicated graphics although I'm not picky since I don't game much
<17" screen
Vista 64bit

I've looked into a Dell Studio 15 and it has pretty much everything I want as far as that particular build goes and it's only $924 (and I get a marginal discount through them)

I also found a Sony Vaio on newegg that was close to my needs.

Any other suggestions. Should I stay away from Dell? I've heard some hit and miss with almost all major brands. But yeah,

oh and niggers.

original box

I've got one of the new VAIO's, and I have no complaints. Sony has fixed some of their bug issues from earlier models, and this one seems to be running smooth as silk thus far.

I've got 32-bit and 3 gig RAM (unless you're a gamer you don't really need much more - most laptops can't handle a full 4 gigs RAM, and 64-bit precludes some specific software I wanted). The VAIO does range up to 64-bit and 4 gig RAM though.

I like it since it combines the visual aesthetic of a Mac with the performance of a PC. I think I hav 15.4" screen too. I got it on sale, so it was only around $750.

I went back and forth between the CS and NS but went NS because I didn't think the CS exterior finish would hold up as well, and I didn't need the extra hard drive space since I already have a 300 GB external.

I've looked at Vaios and I definitely like the look and some of them would suit me for pretty much in my price range, but I keep hearing that they're like the mac of pcs. You pay more for less power and better looks and plurplur.

Hmmm... well it's definitely better than my old Dell, for what that's worth.

I had some concern about speed when I was researching what laptop to buy, but I found that it fared about the same in diagnostic testing as a similarly-priced Lenovo that I was looking at - and those are typically considered to be more high performing.

But yeah, if you're looking for something with high computational power (mathematical modeling or intense gaming), you probably want a higher class of PC.
