between 250,000 and 500,000 people die annually from regular flus......sound the alarms!!!
Isn't one deadlier than the other? If the same amount of people that gets the normal flu gets the swine one that is deadlier, your statistics would be out of proportion. Not to mention that when someone gets the flu, he doesn't go into quarenteine or whatever it's called.
Almost all the time, you're missing information.

Not sure if its only more deadly cause its new. Imagine when the flu first came out it must have been deadly as hell since there was no shot. Once the shot comes out it slowly gets forgotten I guess.

not a bad point. all i'm saying is that these things tend to be blown out of proportion.

scientist speaking here... fun facts for everyone.
what makes this swine flu more alarming is the fact that its rate of transmission was calculated to be higher than the one of the normal influenza virus we encounter yearly. also, it is scarier because the swine flu can be transmitted human to human unlike the avian flu (bird to human only).
also, note that in Canada alone, about 3000 people die each year of the flu. yearly, 10-15% of the worldwide population gets influenza. to be a pandemic, 40-50% of the population has to be infected YEARLY. we are far from that.
and putting people in quarantine wont work for the swine flu because people can be asymptomatic for 3-5 days before they actually get sick. so if you quarantine them when they're sick, the chances are they probably have infected other people already!
nothing alarming but all it takes is one person at the same club as you who doesn't know he's infected..... and we could have one hell of a party!

The world health organization has raised the level from phase 4 to 5
Phase 4 is characterized by verified human-to-human transmission of an animal or human-animal influenza reassortant virus able to cause “community-level outbreaks.” The ability to cause sustained disease outbreaks in a community marks a significant upwards shift in the risk for a pandemic. Any country that suspects or has verified such an event should urgently consult with WHO so that the situation can be jointly assessed and a decision made by the affected country if implementation of a rapid pandemic containment operation is warranted. Phase 4 indicates a significant increase in risk of a pandemic but does not necessarily mean that a pandemic is a forgone conclusion.
Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.
Phase 6, the pandemic phase, is characterized by community level outbreaks in at least one other country in a different WHO region in addition to the criteria defined in Phase 5. Designation of this phase will indicate that a global pandemic is under way.
the worst part about this flu is the god dam media. it's so ridiculous. check these pics i got from another forum.

I was going to the gym today, and while walking down the mall there was this one guy in wearing a mask... Damn he was freaking the shit out of everybody, it's like people tried to keep 10m away from him...
Funniest thing he was just playing around with a mask he got from the hospital.
