Quarantine for lonely Afghan pig

The director says Khanzir, given to the zoo by China in 2002, has been moved to a large space with lots of windows and fresh air and that he hopes he will be quarantined for only a few days. Acknowledging that being Afghanistan's only pig is a lonely existence, Mr Saqib says he hopes to find Khanzir a female companion soon. However, he says, because of swine flu, "it is a dangerous and difficult time to get a new pig for our pig".

I'm no genius, but the amount of absolute medieval battshit science that goes into effect with panic situations is amazing. The idea that one isolated pig thousands of miles away from another strain is going to suddenly become ground zero for a virus Armageddon is retarded. That Egypt would call for the culling of thousands to pigs for similar reasons (yes, I know there were also political reasons) is even more disturbing as you're literally destroying the livelihood of a segment of your population over the complete lack of biopathology.

It's just like these continued anti-vax nut sacks. No amount of real science will sway them from their anecdotal, emotionally-charged destruction of sanity and common sense. Three court rulings saying vaccines where safe? Very promising evidence as to the real pathology behind Autism and it having nothing to do with vaccines? Screw it! Vaccines are still the spawn of Satan, the corrupt drug industry and people that hate your children. It's like a damn South Park episode, except it's real...and kids are actually dying from it.
