Hey guys when you burn all your songs to cd how many songs do you put on each cd ? Also, do you guys write out the song names on paper and place it in your cd case or wha ?

I used to do this but it got way too tiresome when you're constantly deleting older songs you don't have an interest in any longer and picking up 40ish new tracks a month.

What I do now and find is easier is to sit down the night before and pick out tracks that im really feeling like playing. I'll usually fill up two cds of mp3 cds (so 4 cds so that I can use the same cd in both decks) so I can get close to 80 songs on there which is more than enough for a 2 hour set and plenty of different directions to go with the set. It's also all keyed so I have like 3 or 4 options for each next track im going to play, allowing me to go in all different directions on a whim. Each track feeds the next.

I do this because I like to tell a story with my sets and I find that completely pre-progamming a set is a) boring, and b)you can be fucked if the crowd isnt feeling your progression through the mix.

I find that bringing a crate of my massive collection of tracks is more a nuisance than a benefit. I'd rather know the ins and outs and 3 or 4 different ways to transition in each track than have an assload of songs to play. I've never come even close to having an issue or using up all the songs even when playing extended sets.

4 tracks a cd tops with the label on the cd. I also make 2 copies of the same cd in case i want to mix 2 tracks on the same one.

Do you guys also categorize your genres ? Even though you can spin different genres in a set for instance house/tech house in the same set.

Yes. There are way too many sub genres so there is just house and trance for me and whichever group a song fits best into it goes with.

My personal collection is done by genre and then sorted by key so its easy to see what songs can be used with each other. So techno and house and everything in between go in the same folder and trance and prog house and everything in between go together in the same folder.

I used to separate different ways but this is so simple and easy I'll never change again.

I have to categorize my music collection into genres. I'd never be able to keep track of my collection otherwise. I like quite a few different genres, but if I didn't sort out the different genres, building sets would take me and learning the tunes would take me much longer.
