Idea Getting a Studio Together!

Anyone own a studio? I'm trying to get ideas(With $5000)

So far all I have is:
Tascam - TM-D1000 Digital Mixer
Workstation...(pc)

Here is what I need to start with:
Drum machine
dynamics processor
a set of Monitors
Sound card
Keyboard...or two.

What i was thinking was:
E-magic - Audiowerk8 sound card
Tannoy - system 600 monitors
Virus 2 or Yamaha 6x keybord

Thumbs down mc505?

sorry positiva...i thought the 505's sounds were kind of flat and weak. have you tried the ms2000? its in the same price range, cheaper if you go the rackmount route...has some very nice sounds (virtual analog), plus u can make your own if you handy with synthesis...

of course nothing will ever compete w/ the access virus and nord modular & nord lead.

What's the Tascam like?

As you've got a PC I'd go for the AudioWerk8 and Logic Platinum. I've got both and they rock.

Get a decent set of active monitors like Genelec 1029A or Tannoy Reveals or something. Make sure it's got an accurate bottom end.

That'll cost you about £1500 in Britain - blow the rest on synths etc. I recommend the Roland JP-8080 or Supernova 2 and Novation Drum Station. You could try Yamaha CS6x as this has got drums and synth built in (and sequencer too I think). You should think about a decent sampler too (try Akai S3000 or maybe Emagic ESX24).

The great thing about Logic is the plugins - it comes with dynamics and eq and reverb and all sorts built in and you can also get more at a fraction of the cost of outboard. I think v5 is being released in September with even more updates and plugins like Bass Enhancers and Multi Band Compression. You need a reasonable PC though.

If you are buying a synth, I would suggest a KORG Triton.. I tried one of these babies, and it was fucking amazing! I know you must have pretty deep pockets to get your hands on one, but it's worth it I'm getting one as soon as i have enough money.

yeah but that's soooo middle of the road.. everything sounds like that thing..

at present i'm running a very small studio in my basement.. (also my room) .. i've got an gadgetlabs 8/24 (company went out of business ) 8 in 8 out (+some other stuff) for 750$
i've got a midi controller keyboard.. because in a few months i'm going to get a rack mount syth.. in the long run having a controller keyboard saves you a lot of money because when you buy a synth you're paying for the keys as well.. if you get more than one it's sort of redundant.. rackmount synths.. (without keyboards) cost like 200$ less.. aprox..
I also need some condenser mics and then i'm set..

yea.. i agree.. the Clavia Nord Lead 2.. is pretty quality.. as is the whole Korg series actually.. but thats just for synths.... oh i suppose they got built in samplers.. but i dunno.. if u feelin generous.. just find the one with the highest price tag.. u can't go THAT wrong if u do that..
or even better.. go find yourself a Kyma system.. lol

Talking added some synths for ya.

try out the clavia nord lead 3. brand spankin' new. or the alesis andromeda. also the waldorf q and microwave xt. ive been using my roland sh101 and a yamaha an1x for about a year now, and they haven't failed once yet. i guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder....or something.

Hope you find what you're looking for.
