i throw a longer one down sooner or later. there's really two reasons i don't. one is that "promotional mixes" of sorts are supposed to be somewhat shorter in order to not piss off the promoters. a guy usually doesn't have 2 hours and sit around to listen to some local yokel - much less some other 10-15 fucks plying for the same gigs.
second is that i don't want to waste your guys time either. most people have work and stuff. but usually drive somewhere between 45 mins to an hour to their destination - that coupled with 15 minutes of getting into a car and getting your shit together - maybe stopping for some coffee - i'm hoping to provide pleasant driving music.
i also realize there's a ton of artists on TA and definitely enjoy it when i put together 3-4 of my peers' 1 hr mixes on my iPod and have them get me through the day at work.

i think after the new year's hoopla passes i'll put down a 3 hour mix just for you oscar

This was really great, nice funky house with a great vibe throughout.

I enjoyed the opening section immensely:

Adverb - Recovery Dream (Original Mix)
H.O.S.H. - The Valve (Original Mix)
Terry Grant - Songful Bird (Deep Vocal Mix)
Moodymanc - Word (Dub Mix)

Overall very well done, mixing was pretty tight and everything fit together well as far as I could tell.

Hmm, what is that sound at the beginning? Sounds like a movie projector. With that weird spacey pad that comes in, it's a very weird feeling; kind of like an abstract indie film. Definitely evocative of a strange dream. I'd really like to hear Recovery Dream on a big system to get the full effect of those lowwwwwww bass notes. I bet it resonates like a beast.
HOSH is OK. Kinda too abstract techy for me but it fits well after the 1st track. Nice jazzy one here by Terry Grant. Not a big fan of Word, too much use of the vocal in my opinion. If there's an acapella of this, I think it would sound a lot better sampled over track #5. I like how the vocal sounds during the transition to Seven PM, which is a track much more my style.
Euphonious is a super wide tune! I enjoy tracks that use wide anti-phase bass and samples well like this one.
Prostitutes and Video Games is another really wide bassy tune. This one reminds me of something Mashtronic might do. Great bright and spacey tune with Soul Reel! Herb LF also did another really good tune called Jam 2 Tha Mother. If you don't know about it, go check it out! When I first skimmed through this mix to get an idea of the flow, One Million Oaks stood out immediately. AWWWWWWWWWWWWW YEAAAAAAAA! Really amazing. Definitely picking this one up. V8's a little psy-like with that acid line going on in the back; it's alright. I'm not about the next 2 tracks. Not that they're bad, just different from my style at this point. Great mix into Jingle Jangle! Good stuff here as usual from Shur-I-Kan. However, I wonder how the set would've flowed if Jingle Jangle was placed before or after Seven PM.

I used Valve because it fits well into the opening part of Recovery Dream, if you check out the whole track (Recovery) the second half of it gets a little dicey with some repetitive notes, a huge difference from the opening sequence (and yes it sounds like a projector, start the movie!). Grant's track had traces of the flute, much like Valve, that's why that followed, plus the vocals are sex. i used Word as a transition, the vocals are overused, but there are other mixes of it (same release) that don't have vocals on it, i guess i could've picked one of those to follow.
normally, if i'm mixing for 2-3 hours, i would've stayed with the opening (1st 4 tracks) feeling for at least another hour, play a lot of similar "mellow" house. as it is, i decided to take a step up in energy with Seven PM, which has a lot more tech elements and a wider bassline. Euphonious was just a continuation of that. again - in a longer set i would've kept up with the theme for at least 2-3 more tracks. however, we got an hour to work with.
next i decided to showcase my "groove" tracks, sometimes a bit long and repetitive but spacious and lucious, really get you into a "dance groove" or at least that's the point from my perspective, but who knows. Prost/Vid Games & Soul Reel are both in that style. Normally I'd space with different deep house in between them if i'm working with a longer time frame. due to promo time limits i decided to work them back to back and cut out some of the meat on the front and back.
Funk D'Void's take on One Million Oaks is definitely my favorite tune of December. it's one of those tracks that during a 2-3 hour mix you might want to fit in three, maybe four, of them at most - as to not overload on... "epicness"? I figured it was a good time to play it before i go for the "comedown".
V8 is a steady track, with some variety. really easy to mix in and out of because there's a lot of opportunities throughout, you can also play with it - blending into other tracks. which is what i did into 'House Music', i back-n-forth'd it for some time.
House Music and Deep End Theme have really similar basslines/drums. really two tracks that work GREAT with each other, and in similar styles. that was one of my favorite mixes.
Jingle Jangle is an awesome track, it can work anywhere you want it to - beginning, middle, end, whatever. after the mix, i quickly restarted Deep End Theme and tried to blend some of the vocals into the latter part of Jingle Jangle, add some flavor.

it's difficult to express everything i want to with just an hour to fit a promo in. i think oscar is onto something, i need to do a longer set in order to showcase the... so called "flow" that i'm trying to achieve. basically can't do shit in an hour but play around with some tunes and show tid-bits of different stuff.
