Question Question about business schools

A friend in Canada asked me the following question. I'm hoping somebody here has some experience with this who can help because I have no idea when it comes to Melb business school vs UNSW grad school of mgmt...

Question:

I applied to Melbourne Business School at University of Melbourne. For some reason I didn't apply to AGSM MBA Programs, at UNSW. So the first thing, I guess is was that a bad decision?

How is melbourne business school? and how is living in melbourne? was it stupid of me not to apply to UNSW Australian Graduate School of Management?

Also, I got into Melbourne and missed the application date for the other uni.

+++

My friend is basically looking for the best business school available.

So, any thoughts?

U of T has some epic business courses with a wide variety of all things international thrown into em too - so maybe stay in Canada (Toronto)

" I didn't apply to AGSM MBA Programs, at UNSW. So the first thing, I guess is was that a bad decision"

BIG yes. Prob best in oz in in terms of $$ thereafter as a consultant, but in saying that Melbourne still is def still up there (which i think u got into).
The MBA offered at Swinburne is also highly rated from an industry perspective and industry links.

All depends really what sector you want to work in thereafter.

"and how is living in melbourne?"
Compared to where? Toronto? Sort of. Montreal? Yes Sydney? lol.

for MBA's?

EDIT: she wants to travel too, hence why she's looking to study abroad.

If you're going for reputation, Carnegie Mellon (~20th in the world) has a campus in Adelaide. Not sure what courses they offer, but business sounds kinda familiar.

University College London (top 10 in the world if i recall correctly) is also setting up a campus, don't know what courses they will offer though.

The downside is you do have to live in Adelaide.

University of Technology Sydney has the UTS Graduate School of Business which by all reports is the best one in the country. It also helps that UTS is officially since last year recognised as the #1 university in the country by the Government, at least at the Bachelor level. Still though, good uni.

I graduated from it yesterday :P (Bachelors, not the GSB but it's meant to be awesome). No idea what that Melbourne one is like but it's probably pretty good. Graduate schools in major cities are rarely if ever bad.

^^ this.

You can't go too far wrong in Australia with the G8 universities: Melbourne, Monash, Sydney, UNSW, ANU, Adelaide, UWA and UQ. Beyond status, it's important to pick the uni that will suit your lifestyle: consider location, travel time, other work commitments if any, friends/family? Maybe some of these won't be relevant if you're coming from overseas, but worth thinking about.

Consider also the mode of delivery - would you prefer semesters or trimesters? Off-campus, on-campus or a mixture of both? What are your interests beyond business subjects... will the course you're looking at permit you to take electives from other faculties?

I'm halfway through an MBA at Monash, and these were some of the things I thought about. I'd have liked to have studied at Melbourne, but given I live and work about 45 minutes peak-hour travel from Parkville, Monash was it

The only reason I would have gone for Melbourne was because I did my undergrad at Monash, and I'd have liked to see a different perspective. Otherwise, I can't speak highly enough of Monash - they treat their MBA students like kings (they'd want to for what we pay them!), and the quality of teaching and students is outstanding.

EDIT: I fail at reading the OP. Melbourne Business School is fine - your friend will come out with an excellent qualification.
