I'm supposing that if you could fully convince someone of something by messing with their reality you could possibly do this. Like, if you could make someone actually believe that they were trapped forever in a room with no walls or no doors forever and that they were dying of intense physical pain, even if they were in no danger whatsoever. Perhaps permanent psychosis is the equivalent of physical death? You can't reverse the utter destruction to the person's mental capacity. They are essentially dead but with the ability to breathe and piss and defecate. That's it.

But it can't be creating the environment alone that causes the mental pain. It would have to be altering the person's ability to truly believe that they are in danger or that they are trapped forever or to change their perception of time. Some people, if you told them that they were going to die in a prison wouldn't freak out, they'd just stay quiet and wait to die.

You would have to have to ability to alter the very quality that decides if someone is going to freak out and lose their fucking mind over a tiny death threat from a harmless person or if they're not going to flinch even with a firing squad in front of them. There has to be some kind of switch that controls people's panic response.

Panic attacks are extremely painful in the mental sense. They are some of the worst experiences a person can undergo. Many would rather be kicked in the face than to experience a panic attack for 30 minutes.

Hmmm. What if there was some chemical or stimulus that could flip this switch on and off? What would it be? How easily could it be used to give someone panic attacks at will?

If this were invented, it would be the equivalent of a psychological taser that could hurt you far more than real tasers ever could. What could this possibly be. In what form would it exist?

There is probably some kind of frequency that could be used to make a person feel as if they are being ripped apart mentally. A frequency or quality that would turn a grown man into a crying baby unable to do anything but writhe in mental pain the second it is turned on and aimed at him. I must know what this quality is.

I wish I had this kind of device. I could probably invent it if I knew enough theory.
