Burning tunes for CDJ's

I'v recently gone onto using CD's aswell as vinyl. I'm having loads of problems burning tunes. The tunes seem to jump at random points which is causing absolute havoc with mixing as its throwing the beats out of sync.

I've tried a few different burning tools and I have a feeling that windows media player might be the culprit. Does anyone know if its the software, the cd's or even the CD drive that would cause this? Does anyone have any suggestions for software?

I'm using Numark Axis 9's that are pretty much brand new so cant imagine its those. To be honest my laptop is a few years old but I hardly use the CD drive.

Any feedback would be awesome!

Cheers

I guess the best thing to do off the bat is to use the same cds you've been using and try to burn tracks to them on another system with WMP. That'll at least tell you if your drive is screwed before you start trying new apps etc.

I'm using TDK's just bog standard really. Is it worth paying more for better discs?

To be honest I have been thinking of using my flatmates PC to try and elminate if it is the drive. Probably will end up doing that until I get a hold of a new PC.

Cheers guys.

TDKs are fine. Definitely don't go spending money on "better" cds.

Personally I'd spend a little more on quality discs. I find that although some cheaper discs may burn initially, they don't last and are scratched easily rendering them useless. TDK are usually fine though.

Not accusing you but if you pirate songs this is often the case of what happens. A lot of the time tracks are not the originals they claim to be and they don't retain their timing correctly.

If it's not that, then im nearly 100% certain its the drive. What speed are you recording at?

Hi all, thanks for the feedback. I'm burning at 24x I think, its at the fastest setting anyway. The tunes are all bought on beatport i've had issues with crap quality before so think its better just to buy straight from source.

I got another bunch of discs so gonna try another system this weekend and see if another drive makes a difference.

Thanks

I think you'd be surprised at the amount of tracks available from beatport that have actually been ripped from vinyl.

Try burning your disks at a slower speed. 1x for the most precision, and 4x if you don't feel like waiting forever.

Check for any dirt in your players. Also, try switching burning programs. Winamp is free, and rather good (and unless you upgrade, to the full edition, it will force you to burn the CDs at a low speed).

Actually its been said many times that burning slower isn't better. Burning at 12/16x is preferred from what I've heard. I still get timing problems as well I've just dealt with it and gotten better at using the platter. It's basically instinctual now. Maybe I should stop buring with itunes lol.

What are more quality discs? Bigger brands like Sony, Philips..?
